Zinc Borate is a boron-based fire retardant with a chemical composition of xZnOyB2O3zH2O. The most commonly used grade have following structure 2ZnO.3B2O3zH2.3,5H2O (Firebrake® ZB)

Zinc Borate can be used as a fire retardant in PVC, Polyolefins, Elastomers, Polyamides, Epoxy resins.

China will ban processing trade in more categories of chemical and resource products in the latest move to restrict the export of resource-intensive products and to balance trade.

The 2007 Prohibited List for Processing Trade, which will take effect on April 26, bans processing trade firms from dealing in 990 products.

There are 186 new categories listed, including heavy diesel oil, apatite and lanthanon ore. They are mostly non-renewable resources, energy-consuming and high-polluting products.

Most of the newly added products fall within the categories for which export tax rebates were scrapped or lowered, according to an official with the Ministry of Commerce who did not wish to be named.

"It reflects the fact that China does not encourage exports of these products," he said.

The prohibition was jointly released by the commerce ministry, the General Administration of Customs and the State Environmental Protection Administration. The government has updated the list every year since 2004.

Processing trade, in which Chinese manufacturers add value and re-export, is a major source of China's widening trade surplus. Although the surplus is included in China's figures, the profit goes to foreign investors.

The government's moves to control processing trade have had a preliminary impact this year, according to Customs. The processing sector's imports and exports accounted for 45.4 percent of the country's total trade in the first two months this year, down 2.8 percentage points from a year ago.

But the processing trade surplus still amounted to $34.57 billion in this period, while the total trade surplus was $39.64 billion.

Apart from controlling processing trade, the Chinese government is also reportedly preparing to cut or scrap export tax rebates on extra categories such as high-purity refined zinc, garments and more iron and steel products.

Vice-Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng said last month that the introduction of measures to slow down export growth were likely to spur exports in the short term as exporters rushed to fulfill contracts, so the impact on the trade surplus would be delayed.

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 15 May 07 – The trade of zinc ingot went slowly in Chinese spot market in recent days, owing to the low demand from consumers. However, market participants still hold an optimistic attitude towards the zinc market in the coming weeks.

A trader in Guangdong said that he mainly deals with the zinc ingot produced by Zhuzhou Smelter, one of the largest zinc producers in China. He concluded tens of tones of SHG zinc ingot at RMB33,400/t on Monday. “The price is about RMB1,000/t higher than the prevailing zinc price in the local market for its better quality and famous brand,” said the source.

The trader said that the trade of zinc ingot is very slow, as most consumers are watching the market, with low buying interest. However, the source still believes that it’s possible for zinc ingot price to touch the high of RMB35,000 -36,000/t seen in May 2006, pushed up by the strong sentiment held by traders and producers. “I think that the zinc ingot produced by major smelters, such as Zhuzhou Smelter, Huludao and Shaoguan Smelter may breach the high of RMB38,500/t in June,” said the trader.

The trader admitted that the zinc ingot supply remains sufficient in the spot market, but some market participants are also holding back the material, expecting higher prices in the future.

As for the zinc export decline, the trader said that it may not press down zinc price in Chinese market in the future. “As the demand from European and American consumers remains strong, the decline of zinc ingot export from China may boost up zinc price on LME, which will push up zinc ingot price in Chinese market then.”

A zinc producer in Sichuan with the annual production of 50,000tpy said that the zinc market has a consolidation now at around RMB32,800-32,900/t delivered to Shanghai market. “After the consolidation, the metal may start another bout of rising in the future, impacted by the bullish copper market,” said the source.

The producer said that there is no sign showing that the price would slump so far at least. “The declining zinc inventory in the warehouse of LME indicates that the zinc market is still promising.”

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 16 May 07 – Sources informed that Chinese antimony market keeps quiet with prices for 99.65%min antimony ingot stable at RMB39,000-40,000/t (USD5,078-5,208/t) ex works and RMB36,000-37,000/t (USD4,688-4,818/t) ex works for 99.5%min antimony trioxide.

A Hebei-based trader said the market is quiet and demand is slow. “Few deals have been closed in the past two months and the price for 99.65%min antimony ingot stabilizes at RMB39,000-40,000/t (USD5,078-5,208/t) ex works these days,” said the source.

The source also revealed that trading volume of the company has decreased to 10-15t per month due to the sluggish market, about 10t less than its normal level.

A Hunan-based antimony trioxide producer informed that they have received offers of RMB37,000/t (USD4,818/t) VAT excluded for 99.9%min antimony ingot, a little lower than that of April. “The price for 99.5%min antimony trioxide remains in the range of RMB36,000-37,000/t (USD4,688-4,818/t) ex works,” said the source.

The source did not anticipate any turnaround until June, when consumers will run out of stocks. The smelter is running regularly with an output of about 100tpm for antimony trioxide.
