Chengzhou Zinc to construct 50,000-ton zinc facility in Gansu

Gansu Chengzhou Zinc Industry Co. Ltd., a Gansu Chengzhou Mining and Metallurgic Group Co. Ltd. subsidiary, recently held a start-of-construction ceremony for its new 50,000-ton zinc smelting project in the city of Longnan in Gansu Province's Chengxian County, a company official told Interfax today. Also, Chengzhou Zinc recently began work on a technical upgrade for its existing 50,000-ton zinc smelting line.
"Investment into the two projects, which totals RMB 720 million ($94.05 million), will be mainly provided by Chengzhou Mining Group and supplemented by bank loans," a Chengzhou Zinc official, surnamed Li, said.

According to Li, construction of the new facility is scheduled to start in July this year and be completed in July 2008.

When fully commissioned, the new facility will have an output of 50,000 tons of electrolytic zinc and 84,000 tons of sulfuric acid per annum. Zinc concentrates, the upstream raw material for electrolytic zinc, will be supplied by Chengzhou Mining Group.

Chengzhou Mining Group also intends to construct a 60,000-ton lead refinery in Chengxian County in August this year, which will take approximately one year to complete, Li said.

State-owned Chengzhou Mining Group specializes in the mining and smelting of lead, zinc and tungsten. The company has a production capacity of 50,000 tons of refined zinc, 10,000 tons of refined lead and 3,000 tons of antimony per annum.
